The TransLatin@ Coalition is a nonprofit public charity designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3). Founded in 2009 in Los Angeles, it began as a grassroots movement led by transgender, gender expansive, and intersex immigrant women responding to the urgent needs of TGI Latin@ immigrants in the United States. Over time, the organization has grown into a nationally recognized organization with representation in 10 states while continuing to provide direct services in Los Angeles. In 2015, it established the Center for Violence Prevention and Transgender Wellness in response to structural, institutional, and interpersonal violence affecting the community. Its mission is to advocate for the specific needs of the Trans Latin@ community in the USA and plan strategies that improve quality of life.
